EAC & Verification Jan 2025

The MAC – Changes as we enter 2025

As we continue on the road of improving and evolving the Maersk Application Catalogue( MAC) to be the single source of truth for Applications across Maersk, we wanted to bring you up to speed on a few changes that were introduced in late 2024 and also features that will then compliment this and be introduced in the first few releases in 2025.

Unification of EAC Data

As part of the last release in 2024, and in conjunction with Enterprise Architecture, we’ve worked hard to enable the retirement of the EAC (Enterprise Application Catalog).

The last release in 2024 enabled the last stage of this, by unifying all fields that were remaining in the EAC. All fields that were planned to be moved to the MAC are now available and viewable in the MAC under the Additional Information pane once verified by the application owner.

AdditionalInfo

Please note, the Vendor field has not moved to the MAC as with the federated model being applied within Technology and our application ecosystem, this field is better served within SALT.

With this data now moved over to the MAC, the EAC is now in read-only mode. No data can be edited in the EAC and this now purely reflects what the MAC contains.

Verification Process

With the data in the above fields now migrated over from the EAC, to avoid the verification process from being kicked off again, we’ve approached this in a slightly more pragmatic way:

Any application that was verified before this data move is still verified. However, upon the next verification process kicking in for your applications (every ~90 days), you’ll be asked to verify ALL fields now attached to the record ( including the newly copied over EAC data, including details such as Strategic Intent etc).

For any application still awaiting verification, you may now edit these fields at verification time by using the ‘Edit’ button once you instigate the Verification process.

AdditionalInfo

Upon verification being confirmed, these fields will be updated accordingly in the MAC.

The ability to edit these fields directly within the MAC record has been included in the latest release.

If you are an application owner and your application is not yet verified, you should have received an email to verify it. Please complete this verification promptly to help us maintain the data integrity of the MAC.

Platform to Platform moves

At present, Enterprise Architecture owns the approval process for the movement of applications between Platforms, this is due to change so that it becomes more streamlined.

To reflect the ways the Platforms are now working, the accountability of approving Platform changes will now fall onto the Platforms themselves, with EA, only now being informed of the changes.

When a Platform change is instigated, the target Platform owner (and their delegates) will be informed and asked to approve the change. With this subtle change, the correct parties are now involved in the ever-shifting landscape of applications and the ownership that comes with them.

Until the request has been approved (by a delegate or the Platform owner), the Application will continue to stay within the existing Platform and any financial and cost reporting for that application will stay where it is.

To prepare for this change and enable the correct contacts to be setup, we would recommend Portfolio and Platform owners now fully adopt the delegate feature in the MAC and assign several delegates who will also receive Platform and Portfolio communications and approval requests.

The new approval flow is scheduled to be released in early February 2025 and until then, the appropriate Portfolio EA will continue to be required to approve Application moves.
